I am back

Posted in General, Live 8, Africa by Germain on the December 16th, 2006

I know I have been away for close to 6 months now. I was taking a new job and was unable to dedicate myself to this blog.

I am back now with a lot of new experiences and souvenir to share.

I will be coming back to you as long as time permit.

Thank you for understanding my absence

Why Poor Countries Are Poor

Posted in General, Live 8, Africa by Germain on the March 13th, 2006

Ouch! It hurts when it is said by someone else. I couldn’t have said it better, mostly because it is my hometown we are talking about. I couldn’t find a more accurate description of the situation myself. It helps when the situation is evaluated through the eyes of an outsider. I was in Douala recently, and it looked nothing like the city I grew up in. This analysis sums up the impression I had during my ten days visit.

I’ll just let you read this Tim Harford’s analysis for yourself.  If you are from Douala, you are not going to be happy, because there is no reason to celebrate.
