Southern African Overpopulated with Elephants?
S. Africa May Cull Elephants, Angering Animal Groups (Update1)
Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) — South Africa may kill elephants in the Kruger National Park for the first time since 1994 on concern the world’s biggest land mammals are breeding too fast.
The elephant population in Kruger, South Africa’s largest conservation area, is rising 7 percent a year and may reach 20,000 by 2012 and 30,000 by 2019, said Environment & Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk. Prior to 1994 the park, which is the size of Wales, was estimated to be big enough to support 7,500 elephants, South African National Parks said. (more…)
Is debt Relief enough?
Tony Blair along with Bob Geldof and Bono have a been doing a Masterful job of awakening the world conscience about the disaster that most African nations face. Indeed, we are talking about the enormous and overwhelming external debt that has been anihilating their efforts to get out of poverty. Thanks to their respective actions, some african countries will now have a breath of fresh air in their attempt to pin down their development problems… or will they?
The average person in the western world has no idea of how difficult it is for an African to just have access to many of the things they take for granted. Bob Geldof and Bono with their Live 8 tour are doing a great job of raising their awareness on that. (more…)
Any Hope For Africa?

At a moment when everyone is focused on the overwhelming burden of African’s countries debt, I thought I would pause and reflect on this issue too. Let’s applaud the British Prime Minister’s effort to help the continent out of poverty for good. Mr Tony Blair has been working like a mad man to rally his western counterparts behind the idea that Africa’s debt should be cancelled to give the continent a chance in its struggle for development. Reaching and agreement with George Bush ahead of the G8 summit is quite an accomplishment on its own. Tony Blair is arguably the strongest western leader to support a total debt relief for Africa, starting with the constitution of the “Tony Blair’s Commission for Africaâ€? whose objective is to help Africa out of poverty.
